Here it is folks… the blog post that almost didn’t happen. It’s Week 3 of the One Room Challenge and we are truckin along over here! We spent the week in Wisconsin with my partner’s family and we had an SD card mishap- hence why this is a little late. Oh well, better late than never right?
As we go along with this challenge, since we are watching a gradual evolution of all of the rooms, I like to do a little Before and After shot as a reminder of how far we’ve come!
Before: lacking color + cohesiveness, hand me down furniture needing a facelift, and the original light fixture that came with our rental
Week 3: the table now features a weathered wood top, the new chandelier is in place, and this week the chairs were painted a rich satin navy
The Chairs
As I’ve mentioned previously, these chairs were in our eat-in kitchen in my childhood home. My mom still has the beautiful wedgewood blue table but the chairs got the boot and handed down to me when I was in college. I then painted them the bright blue pictured above and for some reason it didn’t really start bothering me until this year. (Insert crying laughing emoji.) Granted, for about five of the last twelve years this set has been in storage! Now it is getting it’s second lease on life and I couldn’t be happier.
Originally I has wanted to paint the tips of the back legs a metallic gold but now I’m torn- what do yall think?
I even painted the little chair in the corner to match. I thrifted it years ago, and it acts as a plant table most of the time- until a kid comes over of course!
Next week the rug and mirror will be here and then we are on to the (drumroll please…) WAINSCOTTING! Stay tuned!
The Plan
finish the dining table with a weathered wood toppaint the chairs a deep navy (with gold tips?)- replace the rug with this one that matches our runner in the entry
- restain bookshelf doors (where tape removed the stain) + add new knobs
- paint backing material of bookshelves gray
- install high sage wainscoting
replace chandelier- hanging shelf rehab with leather “straps”
- new plants (obvi)
- replace rectangular mirror with this one
